Stranraer and Cairnryan have had historic links to Northern Ireland, this is physically manifested in the 10+ ferry crossings between Dumfries and Galloway and Northern Ireland every day!
There are currently two ferry companies which operate from the shores of Loch Ryan - Stenaline which sails into Belfast and P&O which heads into Larne. These are always busy routes - and remain the main link for freight vehicles.
Overall, all the Irish sea crossings carry 3.6 million passengers every year - isn't that crazy?!
