Loch Trool, Newton Stewart

The five mile walk around Loch Trool is a really great way to spend a couple of hours in Galloway.

Just outside of Newton Stewart, in the Galloway Forest, you will find a lot of walks in the Glen Trool area.  However, one of our favourites is the five mile circular walk around the loch.

There is a couple of options for parking for the walk - both paid (Forestry Commission I think) and free (not Forestry Commission).  There are a good number of car parking places, so please don't abandon your car anywhere as the tracks are narrow and there is quite a few vehicles on the road.

The trail is well sign-posted and easy underfoot with slate chips throughout.  There are a couple of slopes but it is mostly flat.  Overall an easy and enjoyable walk.

Once you have finished the walk remember to stop at Bruce's Stone and admire the view.  Did you know that in April 1307 Robert the Bruce fought and won the Battle of Glen Trool on the shores of the loch - Bruce's Stone commemorates the victory?

Have you visited Loch Trool?  What did you think?
