This year has been an unusual one for all of us, we didn't expect to launch a travel-based site on the eve of a global pandemic and we also didn't expect to elope! However, we did both of these things and hopefully you will excuse us for sharing a more personal article today.
When we were planning to get married it was important for us to shop with a local based mindset where possible. Therefore, when it came to Matt's suit there was a clear front-runner - Livingston Bespoke, the bespoke tailoring arm of Livingston's on the high street in Castle Douglas.
The suit turned out lovely, and for those wondering about the bespoke tailoring process we thought we would share our experience today.
Before we get into the whole process, please note this is not a partnership or collaboration and we paid for the service in full. We are so happy with the results and believe it deserves an article of it's own to showcase local talent in D&G!
The Process
As mentioned, Livingston has an impressive reputation as a high-quality, family run tailors so we were sure Matt's suit would look great. However, neither of us had ever been through a bespoke, made-to-measure tailoring experience before and didn't know what to expect. The whole process was really easy and exciting to see the suit come together, with Matt's personal taste and choice at the centre of it.
After an initial 15 minute introduction with the father-son duo who run the tailoring business and a look through the MANY fabric swatch books, we arranged a time to return for a full fitting. The fitting process took place in the gorgeous, private area of the shop (situated on the main street in Castle Douglas - King Street).
Matt was sure he wanted a tweed suit, so that was where the process began. The measuring tape came out, and a series of measurements, numbers and codes were written down.
While measuring, the sheer number of options and customisations available when you get a suit tailored became clear. We began running through a multitude of questions to really make this suit individual.
There was options for personalisation at almost every stage - from the expected such as overall cut and style of lapels and vents, to more detailed aspects such as the number and type of internal pockets (pen, phone, ticket; who knew?).
Once the fitting process was finished, we returned a few weeks later for the final fitting and tweaks.
The Finished Product
As you can see, Matt went for a classically tailored three-piece tweed suit. Tweaked to his exact size and shape to fit perfectly. He also had so many personal details, such as: orange thread accents on the cuff (his favourite colour); stag antler buttons and internal monograms.
We are really happy with Matt's suit, and how good value the tailoring is as this is truly a suit for life! If you are thinking of getting a tailored item - from a jacket, suit or even work trousers - pop into Castle Douglas and have a chat!
